Planning and Zoning

Who we are

The Planning and Zoning Commission is made of a minimum of seven (7). Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Board of Aldermen.  Each member of the Commission shall serve for a term of four (4) years.  The Planning and Zoning Commission serves as a recommendation body to the Board of Alderman on matters relating to development activity in the City.

What we do

The Planning & Zoning regulations are enacted to implement the land use portion of the Comprehensive Development Plan for the City of Clever and to promote the health, safety, morals and general welfare of the citizens of the City. These regulations are intended to lessen congestion in the streets; to secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers; to provide adequate light and air; to prevent the overcrowding of land; to avoid undue concentration of populations; and to facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewage, schools, parks and other public requirements.


The Planning and Zoning Commissions regular meetings will occur on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m.  The regularly scheduled meetings are for the purpose of convening public hearings, making recommendations to the Board of Alderman, conducting business which requires a vote of the Commission, conducting long-range planning functions and other official business.  From time to time, special meetings may be called to process significant matters, to review works in progress such as comprehensive plan updates, or code revisions.

All meetings are open to the public.  Those visitors wishing to speak may do so during the discussion section of the meeting.  Visitors may also speak on any topic under consideration during the public hearing portion of a scheduled topic.  Any person who wishes to make their comments to the Commission part of the public record shall put those remarks in written from that truly identifies the author.
